The Salvation Army will now have more resources to address the urgent needs of the city’s most vulnerable population with help from a $2 million Westside Tax Allocation District (TAD) Ascension Fund Grant approved by the Invest Atlanta Board.

The Salvation Army’s capital campaign – HOPE with Dignity – is raising funds to transform the organization’s current homeless shelter facility (Red Shield Services) into a new, expanded Center of Hope campus. Funding from the TAD grant will help double the size of the current 45,875 square-foot facility and house the Salvation Army’s emergency and transitional living shelter facility, increasing its number of beds from 321 to 437. New units will consist of two floors of individualized living spaces and two floors of dormitory beds for male residents.

The project will also house an Education & Workforce 发展 Center that offers vital services to residents, including housing solutions, emergency assistance programs and other specialized programs that support veteran services, 物质复苏, re-entry services and financial education. The center features six classrooms, 电脑室, as well as several informal collaboration and study areas. Construction of the new, expanded Center of Hope campus is expected to start in early 2024.
